London haulings and a few pics

Hi everyone!

So I spent last weekend (actually from Thursday to Sunday) in London with my friend celebrating my birthday and her nameday (well, we needed an excuse!). I was going to do a swatch post today but unfortunately I have the sniffles and I don't like to get germs all over my precious makeup thingies. So instead I'm posting my London makeup haul and some photos from the trip (ye been warned, the post in question be picture-heavy).

TTFN

I'll be away for a week or so because I haven't yet had a summer holiday. Don't despair if I don't answer to any comments or e-mails, I'll be back soon enough :)

Day at the beach avec moi

Hi everyone!

I know summer is almost over and autumn things are starting to pop up everywhere so maybe this isn't the prime time to talk about beaches. However, I haven't been on a proper holiday this summer, yet. We are going to the southern coast of Croatia with my boyfriend next month and although I'm not a beach person (you have seen how pale I look, right?), I'm actually looking forward to a beach holiday because my knee is still a bit unstable and wouldn't endure our usual tight-paced city holidays.

Since our holiday is drawing near and I'm making some confirmations with hotels and trying to figure out how to pack, I wanted to share my beach favourites.

That plaid bikini from H&M is currently my favourite one. It looks a little 50s retro on me and it actually creates some curves to my body. Also, I'd never go to the beach without SPF50. I like sun lotions that can be sprayed on because they apply more easily. That one is from Eucerin, it doesn't have perfume in (which is a must for me). That floppy white sun hat was bought yesterday when I realized that I don't have a proper sun hat. Yes, it has some sparkly rhinestones on it but I decided not to care.

I don't wear much makeup on the beach because I don't want to look like melty face so I want to wear light and shimmery products. Meow Cosmetics Pampered Puss foundation is light enough to not make you feel like you have a mask on but it does cover any unwanted blemishes. It also comes in a munchkin jar size that doesn't take much room in your bag. I wear it in Inquisitive Himalayan. Evil Shades blush in Burlesque is a lovely peach blush with a hint of pink and gold. Also, I've never gone on a holiday these last couple of years without Fyrinnae's eyeshadow in Polar Bear. Waterproof mascara is a must so my trusty Lumene Blueberry Curl waterproof mascara is coming with me. Fyrinnae Lip Lustre in Lace Gloves will keep my lips moisturized and pink. I'm painting my toes with OPI Catch Me In Your Net which is a shade that morphs between blue and green and gold. On my nails I'll be wearing China Glaze Hi-Tek, a lovely rosy golden shade.

Close-up on the beach beauty products.

I'm trying to get a FOTD posted this weekend so don't give up on me yet!

Shoe Spam

Sorry for not posting looks in a long time but I've actually been busy! I've seen my friends, gone out for walks and tried to sort some things out. I'm posting looks next week, maybe even swatches if I get any hauls.

I wanted to share my latest haul with you. As you probably now, I love sneakers. And Converses are my favourite. I actually have an identical pair of these already but for some reason the rubber comes off in chunks. So I had to replace them.

Behold:

Anyone surprised they are purple? Anyone?

Wednesday Poll

1. How has your week been so far?

Sucky. My knee's been acting up, my appointment for hairdresser's got cancelled and I'd very much like to be able to get out of the apartment. Please.

2. What’s your favorite mindless distraction?

Twitter or DropZap.

3. What’s on the nails?

Lilacism (creamy lavender) by Essie. A yummy colour, perfect for spring.

4. Have you ever seen a UFO?

If you mean alien space crafts, no. If you mean flying objects I've not been able to identify, yes.

5. Do you eat seafood?

Sure.

6. Ever taken a photography class?

Not as such but from 7th to 9th grade I was in a class group that had more art lessons than other kids and we did take some photos.

7. What was your least favorite subject in school?

Mathematics and physics. I can barely count and I don't get vectors.

8. What was your favorite subject in school?

Languages, biology, geography and arts.

9. Do you wear scarves?

When I'm cold or when it's cold outside, yes.

10. Have you ever used LUSH Lemony Flutter? Was it good?

I have and except for the very strong lemony scent I liked it.

Weekly Poll

1. How has your week been so far?

Okay, I guess. I've been out walking for the first time in 6 weeks (I don't count the painful trips to a cab and back inside again), I still need crutches but it's been fun to walk in the sunshine and breathe the (relatively) fresh air.

2. If you had to only wear one brand of nail polish for the rest of your life, which brand would it be and why?

Probably China Glaze because their formula is usually good and they have loads of gorgeous colours. I particularly like Hi-Tek and IDK.

3. What are you wearing on your nails?

Essie Lilacism (lovely lavender creme) from their spring collection.

4. What is your favorite flower?

I love orchids.

5. What’s your favorite drink (alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic)?

For non-alcoholic, I'd say green tea (the good stuff, not tea bags). White Russian or Vodka Cranberry would be my favourite alcoholic drink of choice. As far as wines go, I love chiantis and chardonnays. Old country, of course.

6. If you had a chance to go to the moon for free, would you?

I don't know. For the views, maybe.

7. What decade is your favorite in terms of fashion and the way people/objects looked?

I love baroque so we'd have to move back a couple of centuries. Just listening to Jean-Baptiste Lully's 'Marche pour la cérémonie de turcs'.

8. What word do you loathe?

This part is going to be in Finnish but I hate when people use the expression 'josko'. It's not even Finnish. 'En tiedä, josko pitäisi mennä ulos' doesn't mean anything. Say 'En tiedä, pitäisikö mennä ulos' instead.

9. What’s your favorite word?

I don't have just one :)

10. If you could only use 5 beauty products the rest of your life, what would they be?

Black waterproof mascara, Purely Cosmetics Skin Smoothing foundation, Fyrinnae Polar Bear pigment, Meow Cosmetics A Lick and a Promise blush and Fyrinnae Lace Gloves lip lustre (yes, they'd have to match, that's the point)

If You Want More of My Ramblings..

..then follow me on Twitter. My tweets are protected (the first week I tweeted I got some messages from religious types saying that Jesus wouldn't approve of my foul language. Fuck that.) but I'll accept you after checking out your profile.

Dorothy May Have Had Her Pumps But I Have These

Hi everybody!

Today I have two small posts for you, this is the first one (obviously).

I love Converse trainers. They are comfortable and perfect for my huge but slim feet. There are always tons of colours around as well as a couple of style options (I personally love lo shoes).

BUT.

Converses can be terribly expensive in Finland. I've seen prices varying from 60 euros to almost 80 euros which is a bit too much for me, especially if I want to buy something I won't be wearing on an everyday basis. This also explains why I have only three pairs (grey, purple, magenta), all of which I'm wearing to shreds (especially the purple ones).

So, here I was, immobile and bored and I wandered to a site called Shoe-Shop.com. And they had these lovely sparkly, silvery ones on sale. 30 euros! About 40 euros with shipping! I was still winning with that kind of deal. WANT!

So I ordered them. The tricky bit was that they were shipped via UPS which I personally hate. I want to go to my post office to pick up my parcels and not wait for a delivery guy who cannot say which time he'll be able to come. I didn't know they shipped via UPS. Had I known, I probably wouldn't have ordered them. Who am I kidding? I would totally had ordered them anyway.

Yesterday they arrived delivered by an impatient and rather rude delivery guy. I was afraid that his sullen attitude had tarnished my precious shoes somehow. It hadn't. They are lovely.

My sparkly shoes!

They are sequined, they are lovely and I'm going to wear them the first day I get to walk without crutches!

What do you think? Have you already ordered new shoes for the spring?

The Monstrosity Without Stitches

Hi all!

Sorry I haven't been around almost for a week. My boyfriend caught the disgusting noro virus and I had to be evacuated to live with my parents.

So it's been a little over two weeks since I had the surgery. I got the stitches out on Friday. It was gruelling. It didn't really hurt but I was sure my scars would burst open and spray blood everywhere. Of course they didn't but that's how I felt like. The nurse told me about six times that the scars wouldn't open but I wasn't fully convinced. The good news is that they've healed up nicely and I have no infections. The bad news is that walking is still an issue. Especially walking outdoors. Yesterday I lost my balance outside about three times and what it does is it fucking hurts like hell. I wish the snow would melt completely because then I might be able to walk outdoors more confidently.

I'm posting some things this week, most likely swatches. Hope you like them :)

Here's an updated pic. I decided that I'm going to wear skirts this summer. I'm moving the responsibility to whoever decides to take a look at my legs. If someone has a problem with scars, they can look elsewhere.

Thursday Poll

1. How has your week been so far?

Haha. Painful.

2. Have you ever gone through an entire bottle of nail polish and bought a second of the same color?

I don't think so. I'm the kinda girl who keeps on buying new polishes before the old ones have been used. I'm such a bad kitty.

3. What’s on your nails?

Finger nails: Nfu'Oh #51. Toes: China Glaze IDK with a pink Konad stamp on my left big toe.

4. What are you reading right now?

Lord of the Rings, the Finnish translation (which is amazing, by the way).

5. Do you do pedicures in the winter?

Of course! But I may not keep them as fresh as in summer.

6. Where do you paint your nails?

In my living room.

7. What’s the last thing you bought?

Sparkly silver Converse trainers. I haven't got them yet but they're on their way. A new leg needs new shoes, no?

8. Do you love it when we “spring forward” and it’s light out until 8:00-9:00 pm?

I hate it more when they pull that stuff in the winter. It's dark here anyway so what's the point?

9. What is your favorite print or pattern (can be for clothing, furniture, or whatever)?

I love tartan.

10. What are your two fav color combination’s?

For makeup? Purple+orange and purple+purple, haha.

Bye For Now

Sounds a bit overly dramatic, doesn't it? Well, that's just me.

So I'm having a surgery on my knee tomorrow which means that I'm not able to answer my phone or any e-mails for a couple of days. But it's all for a good cause because after this operation I shouldn't be dealing with constant dislocations with my knee. Yes, it's gross. And I've always put the knee back in it's place myself. Considering I've done this dozens of times, you may guess that a) it's painful and b) that I've been afraid to do normal things (such as running) because my knee can dislocate itself even if I'm just walking (which happened this summer and which caused the chain of events that has lead me to finally getting surgery).

I was going to blog you about makeup but this day sort of flew by as I've been obsessing about tomorrow. So I'm going to share some of the stuff I'm taking with me.

Adorable skull slippers by ing00te (Etsy)

I was told to bring my own slippers to the hospital. I didn't own a pair so of course I rummaged through Etsy until I found ing00te and her lovely felted designs. These were partly custom-made as I wanted the roses to be purple (of course). If you want snuggly, non-slipping felted slippers then Inga is your kind of woman. She's a Lithuanian designer and felt artist who's both friendly and professional. Her works have been displayed in felt exhibitions.

I'm not packing any makeup with me because that would be too much of a hassle. My Anya Hindmarch bag is packed with cleansers, face lotions, toothbrush and toothpaste. I'm also taking my Haus of Gloi sugar scrub in Elevenses with me. I hate hospital smell. As wearing a perfume isn't encouraged, I need something to distract my nose from the smell of chemicals and old people.

Of course, I need a book. So I'm taking the Finnish translation of the Lord of the Rings with me. I've also packed the felted sleeves I got as a gift from Inga to keep me warm, my Aromaleigh Candy Cane lipbalm to keep my lips soft and smooth (and a bit sparkly) and my ugly doll.

I'm also packing some other stuff but since I don't think you'll be interested in my choice of undies, I'll leave them at your imagination :) I was about to pack my painkillers with me until I realized that the hospital will probably have a sufficient supply of those when I need them...

Well, I need to get some sleep because I need to wake up at 5am or so. Wish me luck :)
