Shinkirou and Meerkat FOTD

Spring is finally here! Yesterday was the March equinox so we're finally getting some sunlight, yay! To celebrate spring, I did a look with gold and purple (or in this case pink-purple). Shinkirou is a golden nude (almost white) and Meerkat is this adorable pink-purple with golden shimmer. Both are from Fyrinnae which has become my favourite makeup brand. They have amazing colours for spring. Not that watered down stuff but REAL COLOUR.

Fyrinnae eyeshadow in Meerkat (outer half of upper lid)
MAC Fluidline liner in Blacktrack (upper lash line)
Dior Diorshow Waterproof mascara in Black
MAC Dazzlegloss in Dazzlepuss

I think Shinkirou and Meerkat go great together as they both have that golden shimmer. Meerkat is a lovely colour. It's fun, vibrant but very usable. It's almost the same shade as Darling Misfit from Fyrinnae.

I struggled to get a picture at all. It's very bright outside and I had to take photos at our balcony and the sun came from the most inconvenient angle for me. But I thought this pic was the prettiest of the bunch :) What you CAN see is that Meerkat really brings out my eyecolour.

Dazzlepuss lipgloss is from MAC's Hello Kitty Kouture line. It isn't sold in Finland nor will it be, which is a bummer. I have never used dazzlegloss before and it's sticky. Very glittery but sticky. I think I like lipglasses a bit better.

Spring, here we come!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everybody!

I know I posted a look yesterday. But then I went and asked my boyfriend what kind of makeup would he like me to put on today. And he said: "don't put on your parrot makeup". Hmm. By this he meant the brighter things I do with greens and bright purples. He wanted me to look more natural.

Be careful what you wish for. Because today I'm wearing a very natural look. I think I'm going to liven it up a bit with a brighter lipstick.

Not a Parrot look

Fyrinnae eyeshadow in Snow Leopard (outer vee and crease)
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
Dior Diorshow Waterproof mascara in Black
Pout lip gloss in Pop My Bubble

I took this photo to show you that Rapunzel Had Extensions is NOT gold. It's a peachy pink with golden sheen. Almost in all the other pictures it looked just one-dimensional gold.

I just love these colours together. I know that they aren't the most wow-inducing but sometimes shimmery neutrals can look stunning. And I think these colours definitely fall into that category. Taupe isn't my favourite colour but Snow Leopard is awesome. The golden sheen, the silkiness...

Yep, I haven't brushed my hair. Note to self: brush your hair before taking pictures to your blog. I like how this look turned out. I know it's a bit TOO natural but I'm going to change my lippie. Pout's lip things are great and this shade is supposedly Kylie Minogue's favourite lip gloss shade. Go figure. I love the blush. A Lick And a Promise is my favourite blush shade (which you already know if you have checked out my other looks) because it's close to the shade of red my cheeks naturally have when I get flushed. It's not too cool and not too gaudy. It's glowy but not too shimmery. Go check out Meow's Lush Blushes, I'm sure there's a shade for everyone.

I think my posing has improved :D

Have a beautiful Valentine's Day! Hugs and kisses for all of you! <3

Valentine's Day look with Fyrinnae

I finally got my sample order from Fyrinnae and I have to say that I love the colours! So, of course I had to do a Valentine's Day look with Fyrinnae. My favourite colour is purple so obviously I couldn't have done a look without it. Obviously.

The most unique thing about Fyrinnae is how the colours should be applied. They are NOT meant to be brushed on, they should be patted. This is not difficult really and I did brush the colours a little while I was blending.

Okay, so I wanted to do something with purple. Fyrinnae's Demon's Tail looks almost burgundy in the jar but I can guarantee you that it's a beautiful, vibrant purple. I decided to pair it up with Apparition, a pink shade. And what would be a Valentine's look be without luscious and kissable red lips? Yeah, that's what I thought. So I puckered up.

Meow Crystalline Glow Powder in Quartz (as a higlighter below brows)
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack (on upper lash line)
Dior Diorshow Waterproof mascara in black
Fyrinnae Lip Lustre in Type A

As you can see, Demon's Tail has a lovely sheen that catches the light beautifully. I know this is a funny picture but it was the only one where you could see that. I was very lighthanded with the colours as I wanted this look to be on the sweeter side but if you use more colour, you can make this as naughty as you like.

Okay, flash photography inside. I wanted to do this to show off the richness of Type A. I really adore this colour, it almost looks like blood and has that vampyric quality in it. Needless to say, for a pale chick like me this is perfect. And it's completely useless to make me think otherwise.

And a little bit of natural light. I think these eyeshadows make my green eyes pop. I think this look is sweet and flirty.
If you haven't checked out Fyrinnae, do it now. They don't offer pure mineral makeup but their products are all vegan. The samples are very generous and if your order exceeds $20, you get a free delivery regardless of where you live. You got to love that! Their shipping is on the slow side but that's because of how they make their products but it's not a biggie. Their products are awesome and there's loads to choose from. Also, you can change the currency from the dropdown on the upper right corner of their store so you know exactly how much you're spending.
What are your V-Day plans? I'm going to James Blunt concert with my boyfriend :)
Have a lovely Valentine's Day!

Aromaleigh Make your eyes POP look

Okay, I'm not happy with this look.

Here's the thing. I ordered Aromaleigh's Make your eyes POP-kit for green eyes. I was very excited about the shades. The kit included:

Sage (frost): a delicate sage-green frost for highlighting.

Campanula: a subtly warm brown with coppery and silver highlights for all over lids.

Lilypad: a frosted green shade for crease

Drama Violet: an amethyst shade for eyeliner.

I wanted to do this look "by the book" so I used all the colours in the kit how they should be used. What I realized right away as I was putting on Campanula was that the shade is too "dirty" for me. On AL's website it almost look as light lavender but on the lid it's a very brown shade. I was dissappointed because dirty browns make me look ill. But I decided to complete the look.

The expressions says it all. Okay, my eyes looked a bit greener but I would have wished for purer shades. Don't get me wrong, al these shades are usable but not together for me, anyways. Especially as Lilypad is such a strong teal and Sage is a very fresh light green, it makes Campanula look like the odd one out. The eyeliner is a gorgeous purple but I had some difficulties getting the stuff through the sifter.

As you can see, the colours are almost camouflage-like. It doesn't work for my colouring. And my, is my nose HUGE or what *lol*

So this experiment didn't go as well as I hoped. But I love the colours, I just have to use them separately. Or I could replace Campanula with Orchid. Hmmm..

I love the smoothness of the lipstick, btw. The colour looks almost grey but it's a nice subdued pink. I have to be careful with it, though not to look washed out.

Have you ever tried kits for certain coloured eyes? How did it go?

SwatchOut: Aromaleigh vol. 1

Despite today's initial shock and promise that I wouldn't post anything today, I got my sample order from Aromaleigh (highly praised by dear Decorative Diva/Phyrra) so I did swatches.

First of all, Aromaleigh's CS in first class. If you are making an international order, they send you a message where they ask that you have read the terms and guidelines for international order and undersood them, and that you reply to their message by either confirming or cancelling your order. If they don't hear from you, they won't process your order. Also, you get free samples.

Here are the swatches:

Above (from left to right) swatches from Bête Noire collection: Viviane, Mireille, Lisette

Below (from left to right) swatches from Gothic Lolita collection: Purple Princess, Morbid Curiosity

Viviane is a copper with pink sparkles althoug the website says it's an "intense smokey bronzed violet with bright purple sparkles". I think I'll try this one with FaceFront's Death by Rubies (swatches coming soon..), this is a bit lighter than that one.

Mireille is a dark purple with pink and copper sparkles (the website agrees with me with this one, or is it the other way around *lol*). I like Mireille, it's my favourite of these Bête Noir samples.

Lisette to me is shimmery cranberry pink. Again, the website and I don't see eye to eye because according to it Lisette is "a romantic orchid violet with gold shimmer". I like the metal-like finish of this one.

Now, for the Gothic Lolita collection.

I can only describe Purple Princess by Aromaleigh's own words: deep, satiny purple with rich rose tones and a russet shadow. I like moody purples and this definitely is one. It's no accident that this shade has ended up in the Gothic Lolita collection..

Morbid Curiosity is a very complex colour (I picked it because of its name). Aromaleigh website describes it as "smoked berries and plums with a multidimensional silvery green midtone. Curious". Curious indeed. I find it more like smoked, taupe-ish lilac and there's definitely green and silver sparks. I can't wait to create a look with this one.

Moving on...

Above (from left to right) swatches from Satin Petals Frost collection: Basil, Ivy, Lilypad

Below (from left to right) swatches from Pure Eyes Frost collection: Jade, Orchid

All of these are very soft, delicate colours. That doesn't mean they are not highly pigmented, they are. They are just completely different from the dark Bête Noir and Gothic Lolita collections.

Basil is a lovely green, a bit silvery and greyish. I love this colour although I can't remember why I ordered it. I'm just glad I did.

I'm a bit dissappointed with Ivy. It's a bit like Basil gone to the dark side but a more forest green. I may end up liking it but this is my first impression.

Lilypad is another favourite. It's a silvery green but with turquoise sheen. I think I'll try to pair it up with something purple...

Jade is not a jade shade, let me make that clear. This Jade is minty turquoise. The "real" jade colour should be light golden green. I don't like Aromaleigh's Jade. Sorry.

Orchid is pink with purple sheen. Love love love. I think it'll pair up nicely with Lilypad, for axample.

From left to right swatches from Rocks! Sonic Eyes collection: Atomic, Moonagedaydream, Spellbound

These shades look wicked in their sample bags!

Atomic is lemony yellow as the website indicates (it's also blacklight reactive). However, on skin it's not that vibrant as I expected, as can be seen from the photo. A bit 'meh' really.

Moonagedaydream is dark teal with shimmer. The website says it's gold shimmer but I can't put my finger on it. I guess it's golden but I feel like there's something else. Unlike Atomic, this one is as vibrant as it looks in the bag.

Spellbound is an amethyst purple (score for the website) and blacklight reactive. What can I say, it's awesome. I want to go clubbing so I can wear it!!!

In all, I found Aromaleigh's products of very high quality. The minerals glide on perfectly and despite a few duds, I love the products. Okay, I don't agree with some of the shade descriptions.

Peacock Feathers with Beauty from the Earth

Today I decided to try out BFTE for real. I actually tried to make a look with the shade Jewel on Friday but that failed miserably as the colour just sort of stuck on one place and wouldn't budge. I look bruised and had to take it of and go for something else.

Anyhoot, my look's inspiration was the shade called Peacock. When I did the swatches a while ago, I realized that it would go nicely with Mermaid and Shamrock. Also, these three shades were the only ones that went on smoothly when I did the swatches.

Peacock Feathers

Meow Inquisitive Chausie Pampered Puss foundation (1st layer of foundation)
Meow Inquisitive Sphynx Pampered Puss foundation (2nd layer of foundation)
Meow Inquisitive Chausie concealer
UDPP (on upper lids)
Beauty from the Earth Mermaid eyeshadow (on inner corners on the upper lid)
Beauty from the Earth Shamrock eyeshadow (on the middle of the upper lid, on lower lids)
Beauty from the Earth Peacock eyeshadow (outer vee and crease)
Lime Crime Snow Queen magic dust (as a highlighter below brows)
MAC Blacktrack paint pot (as a liner on upper lash line)
Meow Quartz Crystalline Cat Powder (on cheekbones)
Meow A Lick and a Promise Lush Blush (on cheeks)
MAC Pleasing Slimshine Lipstick

As you can see, the shades blend together very well. What is interesting, is that Mermaid is a yellow with green sheen and Shamrock is a green with yellow sheen. So they pair up beautifully. Peacock is actually a more usable colour than I thought. It also has this greenish finish.

As you can see, I still can't pose for the camera but I think I'm getting slightly better... Right?
I love the Slimshine lipstick, it's so smooth. Pleasing is a great colour.

As you can see, I have "oomphed" up my hair colour. I used a toner mousse so the colour stays on about 6 washes. it's not a lot but I don't want to use "real" hair dyes. Also, I think I need to grow my hair longer.
I'm not sure if I'm going to order from BFTE again. I may be getting the colours I used here, not sure yet.
Love,
Saila, the Adventurous Purple Koala
